It’s always nice to know that the website is being looked at, and this important correction came in from someone who read the latest post on the MAHM Blog, ‘Increase in Personal Tax Allowance hits single income families’.

Doesn’t change the sentiment, but I think it could be misleading to say that under the budget single income families effectively lose out to the tune of £1,730 (being the increase in the personal allowance). More accurate to say that they lose out to the tune of the tax on that increased personal allowance, i.e. £346 (or £692 for higher rate taxpayers)….
Was good to see the child benefit threshold increased and staged – which does help the single income v dual income family at least marginally, and just at the lower ends of the spectrum.”
